The MLT Program's mission is to respond to the employability and educational needs of the community by training ethical professionals to perform competently as medical laboratory technicians.

Texas Southmost College, along with the clinical affiliates' collaboration, provides the basic Medical Laboratory skills training necessary for graduates to be successful in the profession. The MLT program has earned the recognition and respect of the health care community, evidenced by the 95 % employability rate of its graduates.

The MLT two year program is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Upon satisfactory completion of all requirements, the student is eligible to receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Graduates are eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Technician certification examination offered by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MLT ASCP), and the American Medical Technologist (MLT AMT).
