During the Graduation Fair:

  • Purchase and pick up your cap and gown for commencement.  The fee for your cap and gown is just $20, payable by cash, check, or credit card at the cashiers at Oliveira 1st Floor; a table with caps and gowns will be set up next to the cashiers.  You must show your receipt to pick up your cap and gown. If you cannot attend graduation fair then you can pick up your cap and gown at the Lightner Center Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm. Must show receipt at the time you pick up.
  • Pick up your free invitations. Graduate will receive 5 invitations free of charge.
  • Meet with university transfer representatives from a variety of universities and learn about their transfer process.
  • Meet with TSC staff from Transfer, Career and Employment Services who can assist you in the next step towards your career.
  • Meet with TSC Financial Aid staff who can answer any questions you may have regarding your college loans.
  • Meet with Admissions & Records if you have any questions regarding graduation status or remove any restriction holds.
  • Get more information regarding the commencement ceremony.

Honor Cords

At the time of graduation, students earning an associate degree will be recognized for sustained scholastic excellence by graduating with appropriate honors . Honors will be based upon a student's cumulative grade point average on all non-developmental undergraduate hours completed the semester previous to graduation. If courses have been repeated, the last grade recorded will be used in determining grade point average. Honor cords will be distributed at the Graduation Fair taking place at the Oliveira Student Services Center Building 2nd Floor.

Candidates should check-in for the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the Women's Center located next to Jacob Brown Auditorium. Each candidate must be inside and must have cleared check-in, and be in their section by 9:15 a.m.; otherwise, graduates arriving late will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.


Only diploma covers will be handed out on stage during the ceremony.  Diploma covers will only be issued to candidates participating in the commencement ceremony. Candidates who acknowledge in their Candidate Information Card to have diplomas mailed to their preferred address or do self-pick up at the Admissions & Records Office will receive an email from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  once diplomas become available. *Candidates must remove any restriction holds in order to obtain their diploma. 

Candidates who do not pick-up their diplomas at the Admissions & Records Office after becoming available or diplomas returned in the mail will be destroyed. There is a $25 reprinting cost per diploma.


A photographer will be taking a photo as the College President congratulates you. These photographs will be available from the photographer within 72 hours of the event. You will have to order and pick up (delivery) your photographs directly from them. You may contact them directly: Treviño's Digital at 956-783-5274. *TSC will NOT be responsible for ordering any photographs of any kind.

Commencement Ceremony Do's and Don'ts


How do I wear my tassel?

DO: Begin with your tassel on the right side of your cap.

DON'T: Move tassel to the left until the College President confirms your degree, the entire graduating class will move their tassels to the left in unison. This signifies the move to a higher level of education.


How should I wear my cap?

DO: Wear your cap mortarboard level. The crown should rest approximately one to one and one-half inches above each ear.

DON'T: Place cap on the back or to the side of your head.


What should I wear underneath my gown?

DO: Light and comfortable clothing underneath your gown. Shoes and other articles of visible apparel worn by graduates should be of dark colors that harmonize with the gown.

DON'T: Make any additions to the regalia. In order to keep with the dignity of the ceremony candidates must not alter regalia, as you will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.


How do I take care of my cap and gown?

DO: Remove your cap, tassel and gown from the package. You may press the gown with a cool iron to remove wrinkles. Place the gown on a hanger.

DON'T: Have cap and gown washed or dry cleaned due to the nature of material.


What can I bring to the Commencement Ceremony?

DO: Advice family members or friends NOT to bring balloons, or noise-making devices inside the auditorium.

DON'T: Bring any personal belongings with you. Leave your belongings with a family member, friend or in your vehicle.
