The Disability Services Office offers sign language interpreter services for academic purposes to qualified students registered with the department.

Sign Language Interpreter Services

The Disability Services Office has sign language interpreters on staff who are able to offer Sign language interpreting in ASL and English Oral interpreting.

Scope of Sign Language Interpreter

Sign language interpreters are provided, to qualified students registered with the Department of Disability Services, for access in the classroom and during other assignments related to their required coursework at no additional cost to the student and/or department.

An Interpreting Request Form (link on the right-hand side menu) is available to request additional services for academic course requirements outside of the regularly-scheduled class time.

Non-academic Sign Language Interpreter Requests

Requests for sign language interpreting services for non-academic programs or events should be directed to and handled by, the sponsoring entity. Disability Services can provide information on local interpreter service agencies in the area to the sponsoring entity. Payment for interpreter services is the responsibility of the sponsoring entity.

Volunteer Note-takers

The Disability Services Office provides volunteer note-takers for students who are deaf/hard of hearing. The volunteer note-taker provides a written or typed summary of classroom lecture and activity by taking notes related to the curriculum. The note-taker does not produce a verbatim account of all communication but rather a summary of the content. This allows the student who is deaf/ hard of hearing to attend visually to the dynamics of the classroom, verbal communication, and media presentations.
