Texas Southmost College Files Lawsuit

(BROWNSVILLE) December 12, 2013 – The Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees approved a motion to move forth with a lawsuit to address issues involving the Texas Southmost College Foundation's intention to change its Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. The legal action was necessary to preserve the assets of the Foundation for TSC and its students. According to Dr. Lily F. Tercero, President of Texas Southmost College, "It is extremely disappointing that we have been forced to take legal action to preserve the intent and purpose of a foundation that was originally created to support only TSC."

Angel Tree Toy Drive

angeltreeflyerThe Campus Activities Board in conjunction with the Office of Student Life will be hosting "The Angel Tree" toy drive. We are asking students, faculty and staff to bring in new, unwrapped, toys for children between the ages of 5-7 years old. Toys can be dropped off at the Camille Lightner Center or the Oliviera Student Services Center. Those who donate a toy, will be recognized with an angel card that will be placed on the tree. All toys will be donated to Southmost Elementary. The last day to donate is December 18th.

Inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Tree-Lighting-Ceremony-flyerPlease join us as Texas Southmost College will be hosting its inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The ceremony will take place Wednesday, December 11th, at 5pm, at Gorgas Hall (by the flag pole). The community and all TSC students, faculty, and staff are welcomed to attend. Light refreshments will be served, along with a musical performance by TSC students. Angel Tree donations will also be accepted at this event. Please see attachment for more information.

Rich Products Corp. Partners with Texas Southmost College for a $301,736 Job-Training Grant

Rich Products Corporation has partnered with Texas Southmost College to provide job training through a $301,736 Skills Development Fund Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Texas Southmost College will be providing highly technical and computer training as well as advanced training to improve employee workplace communication skills. This grant will be used to train 251 administrative, maintenance, production and warehouse employees of Rich Products Corporation.

Mr. Andres Alcantar, Chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission, presented a check to Texas Southmost College President Dr. Lily F. Tercero and representatives from the partnering business at a 10 a.m. ceremony held on the front lawn of the Rich Products Corporation facility in Brownsville. Mr. Eduardo de la Rosa, Plant Manager for Rich Products Corporation, provided a welcome and described the company’s significant history dating back to 1945.

Senator Eddie Lucio joined in celebrating this state-and-local partnership and emphasized the importance of having a ready and skilled workforce. “Today is the first step for Rich employees in what I have no doubt will be a long, rewarding journey toward greater professional advancement,” stated Senator Lucio, “I can think of no greater companion on that journey than the fantastic faculty and staff at Texas Southmost College.”

President Tercero affirmed Texas Southmost College’s role in serving the needs of the business community, “TSC is fully committed to seeking out educational opportunities that enhance and strengthen our local workforce. We look forward to supporting Rich Products Corporation through this customized workforce and skills development training program.”
