Student Profile: Gabriela Guerrero

Gabriela GuerreroNot everyone has the benefit of having someone to motivate them or to look up to for inspiration. Self-motivated 20-year-old Texas Southmost College criminal justice major Gabriela Guerrero was among them. Guerrero went back-and-forth between family in Houston and the Rio Grande Valley after her mother passed away, and never had a parental figure to guide her.

Growing up and going to school in Houston’s inner city, where metal detectors in middle schools are common place, Guerrero was exposed to an environment of gangs and constant fighting.

Spanish Club’s Día de los Muertos altar recognized by Mexican Consulate
The TSC Spanish Club was recognized by the Mexican Consulate on Oct. 30, 2015 for their work on the altars around campus to celebrate Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. The TSC Spanish Club was recognized by the Mexican Consulate on Oct. 30, 2015 for their work on the altars around campus to celebrate Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead.

The Mexican Consulate in Brownsville recognized the Texas Southmost College (TSC) Spanish Club's altar for Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, during a brief ceremony on Oct. 30, 2015 at the ITEC Center.

Faculty Spotlight: Blanca Lozano

Blanca LozanoWhether it’s volunteering at a community organization or teaching her computer information systems students at Texas Southmost College, serving others has been Blanca Lozano’s life-long mission.

“I’m here because of the mission that we have and the goals that have been set for us,” said Lozano, who started at TSC in 1984. “It goes with my personal mission and what I want to do.”
